"(Paul Bosc) has always stressed
things such as soil typing, microclimate, grafting techniques
and vine selection. That's not very glamorous stuff to most
consumers, but it's care that shows in the bottle. No winery
underscores the potential for Niagara wines more than Château
des Charmes."
Dan Kislenko - The Hamilton Spectator
"Two decades have passed since Frenchman
Paul Bosc, scion of five generations of winemakers, along
with his wife Andrée, bought his first Niagara vineyard
and planted it with nothing but vinifera vines, triumphantly
defying conventional wisdom. Ever since then, his pioneering
work in viticultural techniques has made headlines with the
industry."
James Chatto, Food and Drink Magazine
"Considered by many to be the
finest winery in the country, Château des Charmes produces
wines that are nearest the French style. Winemaker, Paul Bosc,
has been described by Leon Adams, the doyen of American wine
writers, as the best winemaker in Canada."
Tom Stevenson - Sotheby's World Wine Encyclopedia, London,
England
"Bosc is the Baron Philippe Rothschild
of Ontario, he is leading the Ontario wine industry."
Brian Bannon - The Windsor Star
"Owner and winemaker Paul Bosc and
his entire family have been working for and planning this
move for the last decade, and their success is a signpost
to the future of winemaking as a major attraction to southern
Ontario. Without waxing too poetic, I see the opening of the
new Château des Charmes as the starting point of the
next chapter in Ontario winemaking. Château des Charmes
has led the way, and others will follow, I am sure."
Dan Kislenko - The Hamilton Spectator
"Paul did much to convince the industry
that the future lay in vinifera varieties and his early Rieslings
and Chardonnays were models for other wineries. His wine making
style is totally Burgundian, especially in his penchant for
the difficult Aligoté grape and his insistence in making
a Gamay Nouveau every year (the best in Ontario). He also
makes the best champagne method sparkling wine in Canada."
Tony Aspler - Tony Aspler's
Vintage Canada: A Tasteful Companion to Canadian Wines,
1993
"Finding a great wine just got a whole lot easier.
That's exactly what Cellars of the World, the international
wine competition for the Ottawa Wine and Food Show, was
designed to do. In this year's giant competition, a panel
of 31 experienced wine tasters assessed 416 wines. Canada
always does well and Château des Charmes headed the
pack, taking Best of Show with their St. David's Bench Gewurtztraminer
2000 ($14.95), a second gold for 'Silver Label' Cabernet
2000 and a silver for Brut Méthode Traditionnelle
sparkling wine.
