2008 Riesling, Estate Bottled (V.Q.A. Niagara-on-the-Lake)
Produced from 100% Riesling grapes and fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. The colour is light gold and the bouquet is floral with aromas of citrus fruit and lychee spice. On the palate the wine is lively and full flavoured with a refreshingly crisp finish. This wine makes an excellent aperitif and also matches well with seafood or spicier dishes such as Asian food. A five time gold medal winner at the annual Cellars of the World Competition. 3062 cases produced. Harvested September 26, 2008.
“A general list VQA "superstar," this is just off-dry with floral aromatics and a medium-light body. Fresh fruit and minerals come through in the taste, which has a tangy crisp fruit finish.”
– Margaret Swaine, National Post, March, 2010
“From the original vines Paul Bosc planted in 1978, here’s an aristocrat among Rieslings, elegantly dry with a vibrant tang of pear-citrus, refreshing and very food friendly, especially with dim sum, white meats and delicate fish dishes. Selected as the LCBO’s VQA Superstar. 91 pts. Exceptional, stylish and memorable.”
– Frank Baldock’s Wine Express, March, 2010
“From one of Niagara's consistently reliable producers, this is a well-priced dry riesling that goes well with roast or grilled pork and with poultry. Look for complex flavours and excellent balance.”
– Rod Phillips, The Ottawa Citizen, March, 2010
“I'm pretty certain you won't find a better Riesling for the price in Niagara. This is made in a dry style with a nose of flint, lemon-citrus and apple. The lime and lemon notes gush on the palate backed by racy acidity. This is made for grilled freshwater fish. 3.5 stars / 5.”
– Rick VanSickle, Osprey Media, March, 2010
“The 2007 is nice, but the new 2008 is really pretty on the palate. A whiff of smoke heralds aromas of pear, apple, jasmine and lime blossom. The flavours deliver slightly sweet jasmine, anjou pear and lime peel. Overall, this white has a very vibrant but laid-back acidity and is quite refreshing. Food suggestion: Batter-dipped haddock. 89+ pts.”
– Gord Stimmell, Toronto Star, February, 2010
Food Pairings Riesling is the most versatile of food wines. Try this wine with seafood, poultry, Asian cuisine, or even white meats with fruit sauces.

“Among the best value chardonnays under $15 (from anywhere, not just Ontario), it’s mild yet rich without any excess–very much like a Mâcon from Burgundy. Subtle oak allows aromas of apple pie, cheese, and dried herbs to come to the fore. Medium weight, with good balance and depth. A sipper, or pair with pork. 87 pts. Very good.”
– David Lawrason, Toronto Life Eating & Drinking Guide, 2010
“One of the best values in Ontario wines is Château des Charmes Chardonnay, which sells at the LCBO for $11.45 a bottle. What's more, it's consistent from vintage to vintage. The current 2007 vintage takes advantage of the ripeness of the year. Remember what a summer that was. The wine has a minerally, apple bouquet with well extracted, mouth-filling apple flavours nicely balanced with acidity. Match it with fish or chicken.”

“The Bosc family continues to make some of Niagara’s sturdiest, traditional Euro-style reds. This one shows gumption compared to most other 2006s, but it’s already maturing, with woodsy notes around the cran-cherry fruit. Good length. Drink now with two hours of aeration in a decanter or hold until 2010. 84 pts." – Toronto Life, 2009 Guide to Eating and Drinking, December, 2008

“From Ontario, one of my favourites is Château des Charmes 2006 Vidal Icewine at an affordable $25.95 per 200ml bottle. This Niagara-on-the-Lake beauty has a spicy, honeyed, baked apple, caramel nose along with a fairly viscous, backed apple puree flavour plus a lingering gently tropical caramel-tinged finish. It’s the kind of wine you can have chilled with a foie gras appetizer, by itself or with cheese and/or dessert.”

– Natalie MacLean, NatDecants, December, 2008

– Michael Pinkus, ontariowinereview.com, October, 2008
“The Bosc Family’s superb touch with icewine continues. This wafts wonderful, complex aromas of papaya, apricot and honey on fresh bread, with an intriguing back note of butter-mint candy. Full-bodied, viscous, creamy and very sweet, yet pinned on precise, playful acidity and a lemon/peach finish. Excellent length. Poised and delicious. Enjoy now, but should hold through 2013. 93 pts.”

“This bubbly is a classic cuvee of 50% chardonnay and 50% pinot noir made in the méthode traditionnelle (like they make it in Champagne). It has a beautiful burst of fresh citrus and apple on the nose. Tiny, vigorous bubbles on the palate to go with lime, lemon and apple flavours all leading to a long, clean, crisp finish.”

– Rod Phillips, The Ottawa Citizen, February 2008
"Pale medium straw; very fine mouse. Yeasty notes are evident from the extended ageing period on the lees, alongside evolved notes of caramelized citrus, stone fruit and toasted bread. Serious concentration overcomes the palate; dry; evolved flavours continue through to the long finish. Nicely done, and at a nice price too, for quality bubbly. 89 points. 2 ½ stars out of 3.”
– John Szabo, Wine Access First in Line e-Report, January 2008
“This blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has a very light straw colour. Attractive, gently honeyed, slightly spicy, ripe lemon-apricot nose. Well balanced, medium bodied, quite well structured, dry, slightly honeyed, ripe apricot-citrus flavours with a harmonious, effervescent finish. Recommended.”
– Michael Vaughan, Vintage Assessments, January, 2008

Vinified in the classic Méthode Traditionnelle our Rosé sparkling wine has been bottle fermented and aged on the yeast with every bottle being disgorged (RD) just prior to release. A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with lively bubbles and a pronounced salmon colour. A highly expressive bouquet of ripe strawberries with a vibrant, dry (Brut) and refreshing texture. Harvested September 1, 2006
“The 2005 vintage was the first trial for this Rosé and it did amazingly well. This is one of those wines that should be shouted about from the rooftops. Paul Bosc has done it again. This 2006 is loaded with fresh red fruit – the aromas are like a bowl of red berries: strawberries, raspberries and cherries. The fresh berries follow through onto the palate … bottom line this wine is simply lovely to sip on, with all those strawberries and cherries wafting and swishing around, gracing the palate with lovely acidity and a clean ready-for-more finish. This 3-year bottle aged bubbly is a masterstroke. I always thought nothing could beat the 2005 pink bottle of bubbly I had, but this just might do it … makes me want to get engaged all over again. Rating: *****. Outstanding”
