"Château des Charmes is a winery you can't miss as you drive along York Road just west of St. David's. In the middle of their manicured vineyards, the Bosc family have built a Loire-style château that doesn't look out of place against the Escarpment. It's a prominent landmark that reflects the long term contribution the Bosc family has made to Ontario wine."

- Rod Phillips,
Ontario Wine Country, 2006

The Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard grows only the finest vitis vinifera grape varieties. Low yields, superb terroir and advanced viticultural techniques produce wines of great elegance and finesse.

2007 Pinot Noir, Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard
(V.Q.A. St. David's Bench)

Print Tasting Note
This Pinot Noir is wonderfully expressive on the nose with a hint of spice. It is rich and full bodied possessing fine tannins and flavours of red berries with a velvety finish. 227 cases produced. Harvested September 20, 2007.

“This is impressive in colour, weight and girth, as big a pinot as Niagara can do – and it stays nicely in proportion. It should age well. It has a fairly generous rich nose of black cherry, wood smoke, dried tobacco and earth. Medium-full bodied, generous and thick with some suppleness of the vintage, but rather sturdy, green tannin. Very good to excellent length. Best 2012 to 2015.”

– David Lawrason, WinerytoHome.com, April, 2010

“Just over 200 cases of this single-vineyard Pinot were made in the great 2007 vintage. The nose reveals spice-laden red fruits with touches of cedar and earth. The red berries on the palate are lifted by mocha spice all on a bed of fine tannins. Could cellar for three to five years. 4 stars / 5.”
– Rick VanSickle, Osprey Media, March, 2010

2007 Equuleus, Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard
(V.Q.A. St. David's Bench)

Print Tasting Note
The 2007 Equuleus is a classically styled blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot. Equuleus is only produced in exceptional vintages and is notable for its age worthiness and concentration. Aged for one year in French Tronçais and Allier oak barrels, Equuleus is rich and full bodied with flavours of cassis and dark chocolate. Equuleus is the name of the “Little Horse” constellation, best seen when it rises in the night sky at harvest time every September. This equine symbol celebrates Château des Charmes’ founder Paul Bosc’s passion for Egyptian Arabian horses which are stabled at the Paul Bosc Estate, the family’s home vineyard. Ready to drink now, but will continue to develop in the bottle for 5-10 years. 1019 cases produced. Harvested October 25, 2007.

“...this is the best Equuleus to date. Medium-to-full-bodied, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder equal parts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, gives off a perfume of cassis, plum, vanilla, spice and smoky tobacco. The mouth is concentrated with excellent length and classic CdC tannins. Hold it until 2012 and drink it until 2020. 90 pts.”

– Tidings, July/August, 2010

“This is the winery's flagship red, a classically styled blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot produced in only the best vintages. The spice and oak notes jump from the glass in this tightly-wound wine with cassis, plums and other dark fruits following. It's beginning to open up on the palate with ripe, rich dark fruits that fold into hedonistic chocolate and spice flavours. This is a big, concentrated wine that will reward with patience in the cellar. 4.5 stars / 5.”

– Rick VanSickle, Osprey Media, March, 2010

Food Pairings
This wine is an excellent match for any red meat or pasta dish.

2007 Riesling Icewine
Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard
(V.Q.A. St. David's Bench
)
Print Tasting Note
This famous dessert wine is produced exclusively from the Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard. The fruit is harvested in the winter at a maximum temperature of -8 degrees Celsius or colder when it is frozen solid on the vine. The frozen grapes are then pressed and the resultant nectar exudes aromas of apricot and honey with a fine overall balance between fruit flavours, sweetness and acidity. Icewine is a gift of winter to be enjoyed on its own or served with dessert.

Château des Charmes' renowned icewines have won numerous national and international awards including the International Wine and Spirit Competition Trophy in London, England where it was judged "Best Icewine Worldwide." 623 cases produced. Harvested January 20, 2008.

“Very exotic tropical fruit and pears/peaches/apricots in syrup flavours, with some spiced apple and ginger nuances. The palate is full, lush, certainly sweet yet not cloying, with impressive concentration and length. Lots of appeal here, for short term enjoyment in my opinion, to capture the exotic fruit essence. 93 pts.”
