Visiting
the Château
As the Bosc family knows, fine wines
are not made they are grown. This is the raison dêtre
of Château des Charmes. It is also true that fine hospitality
cannot be manufactured but is grown within a setting of natural
beauty inspired by creativity, passion, and a dedication to
service. The exquisitely designed Château is unlike any
other setting in Canada. Beyond housing a state-of-the-art winery,
it is home to three hospitality rooms, an outdoor Vineyard Courtyard
surrounded by romantic rose gardens, a wine boutique and tasting
bar.
The Château was opened in May,
1994 and was immediately hailed as an agri-tourism landmark.
The Château sits on land with historic ties to grape
growing and wine. Christian Warner, a United Empire Loyalist,
was granted land by the British government and settled the
property in 1783. He then formed a Methodist church and the
writings of the period indicate that wine played an important
role in church ceremonies.

Today, this tradition of integrating
wine as part of the daily lifestyle continues at Château
des Charmes. Overlooking the 85-acre St. Davids Bench
Vineyard, the winery invites guests to join in daily public
tours scheduled daily at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. (French) and 3:00 p.m., seven days
a week. Guests may also visit the tasting bar and boutique
which features a selection of Château des Charmes wines.
Corporate groups and dignitaries
from across Canada, the United States and overseas are also
attracted by the unique nature of the winery. Michele Bosc, Director of Marketing
and her dedicated staff tailor
events to include private château tours,
formal tastings, team-building activities, wine country luncheons,
dinners and galas.
Imagine being greeted with a glass
of wine in the splendour of the winery foyer before beginning
an educational adventure into the world of fine wines. Following
this introduction to wine country, groups may
indulge in the culinary expertise of some of Niagaras
finest chefs. Menus are customized and the Château is pleased
to select wines that best complement the menu selections.
Madame Andrée Bosc,
the joie de vivre of the winery, may also be in
attendance, regaling guests with fascinating family history
and sharing insights into Canadas first family of winemaking.
