1999 Local winemaker Paul Michel
Bosc has been invested in the Order of Ontario.
Bosc, co-founder of Château des Charmes
Wines, was recognized in a ceremony at Queen's Park this week
for his role in "raising Ontario's
wine industry to world-class status."
"It's
a great honour to belong to the club," said Bosc. "It
means I've been recognized not only locally but at the highest
level."
Happy his work for the wine industry
and viticulture has been acknowledged, Bosc said the Order
of Ontario is a benefit to the winery as well. Although the
honour is personal, "what's good for Paul Bosc is good for
Château des Charmes."
The winery was established in 1978,
and is currently run by the Bosc family, Paul Michel, his
wife Andrée, and his sons Paul-André and Pierre-Jean. With
more than 200 awards given to Château wines in national and
international competition - he has quit counting the medals
- the York Road winery has been very consistent with its quality,
said Bosc.
While each award given to a specific
wine is rewarding and shows a degree of success, he added,
an honour like the Order of Ontario given for his life's work
means much more.
Is the Order of Canada next for
the winemaker? "Who knows,"
he laughs. "These things one does
not ask for."
